30 gallons... oh man. Good luck catching post-larvae when you get them. :) You might want to drain it down so you're just using the bottom 5 gallons or so. Though I'm finding skinny tall containers work better than squat containers just because the typical measuring devices for specific gravity are ...

The "Triassic Triops" kits come with a packet of detrius that looks like a teabag. Without something like dirts from their pond or that stuff, the triops die in a few days from some sort of fungus. So are you saying they only need that detrius in the very beginning of their lives? I imagi...

Wow, triops are some of my favorite animals, but up until now I hadn't come across a practical method of raising them (beyond the CYA ultra-sterile instructions on the Walmart packets). I think I'll give this a try.

I'm still not clear on what the "tea bag" is though...

When there are people out there who'll pay $30 for one tiny shrimp, sellers quickly realize they'll probably pay a lot for products for shrimp too, whether those products are necessary or not.

You can get distilled water at a grocery store. It's basically the same thing (H2O with a minimal amount of dissolved solids). It may or may not be cheaper.

raising mixed amano hatches, likelihood of cannibalism?

I have a couple hundred new amano zoes going into saltwater momentarily. In a few weeks I expect to have at least that many more hatching. At that point their difference in size will be pretty pronounced. I'm wondering if anyone has tried mixing hatches before. Is cannibalism a significant danger he...

Some pet stores and most aquarium stores sell live marine phytoplankton in little bottles. Should run $8 or less.

If you tell them what's in the box they'll probably push extra fees on you, like a special handling fee. If the weather isn't extreme in either location and the shrimp bag is surrounded by styrofoam, priority mail (with no special handling) is usually quite sufficient. I would use express mail in ca...

I doubt what you've done will be successful, but it also has probably the best chance of working of anything you could do.

Unless you have a cannister filter, then I'd put the body inside the filter.

But don't expect much.

Amanos would probably do it, but you'd need a ton of them. I finally wiped out my clado (one type of algae commonly given the "hair algae" title) with amanos, but it took over 50 to pull it off.

Does it have filtering appendages? I can't make out any. If it doesn't it's not an Atya.

You could try pearl shrimp if you can find them.

Might want to look into dwarf crayfish too.

I'm still not sure if I want to make the attempt at raising young. I'd have to drag out my 10 gallon and clean it up... You could do it in a cheapo 3 gallon piece of tupperware if you wanted to. I can't sit by and watch someone not take advantage of an opportunity like that. :) I'm still waiting fo...
