I just had a good mid-sized hatch today 3/13. I isolated about 150 zoes to harden up. They go into the salt in the AM. Just an observation, but major hatches for me seem to hapen 24 hours after a water change. Not always, but I've not seen a major hatch with out one.

Good luck with the amanos. I hope you rear them all to adult size. If Americans start taking interest it will be really fun to have new variaties and for once Germany may come to US for new shrimp

Well that didn't work. I guess it is time to clean out the tank and start again fresh.

Wow! I had broken down the tank after it looked like all the larva were dead. I left the light on but took out the heater for another tank. The room is around 65 degrees this time of year. I had not added water or even checked the tank for almost 2 weeks.

Today I look in the tank and what to my wondering eyes appeared? dozens of larva, just like I had put in there and thought had died! The French article said just algae and fold your arms. I guess he may be right.

As soon as my new heater comes I'll warm the tank up and see what happens. Go figure.

OK, got my super wham-adine titanium salwater heater. Temps are up to 72 degress F. Pure algae so far. Loads of tail hangers yet.

They are still going. I've taken to capturing zoes 2 days after a water change every week. I usually only get 25 or so, but that is 25 that would die anyway.

There are a few volunter brine shrimp still in the tank that have established a breeding colony. I'm letting them stay as a water quality indicator.

I tried some 100 micron "golden pearls" today. I took a tiny pinch and mixed it with some of their tank water and poored it in. Within a few minutes they all had one and were eating away. These guys were growing so slowly I figured I needed to try something. I have 100 and 500 micron size. The 100 is just about perfect for these guys. They seem to feed by bumping, not hunting.

Feeding creates a trade-off in water quality, so I'll need to watch that closely.

I was told that dandelion leaves were good for snails. Now it looks like it is great for shrimp too. I put some in my Amano/Cherry tank and a feeding frenzy ensued. You'd think I was starving these guys.

The amanos were on the leaves before they hit the bottom and each was trying to get away with a leaf for themselves. They had them stripped to threads in under 5 minutes. The cherries were in on it too, so there must be something in them they need. The snails are not quick enough to get any.

I pick a bunch and put it in a pint container with enough plain water to cover, then zap for 5 minutes. Drain, rinse & serve.

Thanks for the cooking directions for the dandelion greens.

It has warmed up enough around here for them to start growing.

My neoghbors will wonder what I am doing now.
