strange alien underwater life

I just found this cool looking critter in my tank today. A couple weeks ago, I added some of that stringy moss looking stuff for the inverts to nibble on. I got it from my garden pond, and with it all kinds of strange insect larvae.

Im waiting for an ID on this one, Ill post it when I know

It looks like the pupa of a chironomid midge:

ive been told its the pupa of a mosquito, I guess Ive never seen the pupae, only the larvae.

Mosquitos and midges are very similar.
