Atya scabra

Post by miketoe »

I have found "Atya scabra" for sale and was considering purchasing some of them.

Does anyone have any personal experience with this species? (If no one does, then I will just assume that care requirements are similar to "Atya gabonensis".)

No personal experience. However, I know that it is widespread (caribbean, south america and west africa if I am not mistaken) and can tolerate a wide range of water parameters, i.e. very adaptable.

The strange thing is that this species is usually not sold in stores unless someone who has connections in some of the countries of origin for this species can get you some.

Hi Michi!

I have Shrimp of this species from West Africa and from the East Coast of Panama in one of my aquarias.
The requirements are absolutly the same as for A. gabonensis (much corrent, high oxygen concentrations and temperatures between 20 to 30°C). In Panama we collected this species in a very fast flowing river with soft water (no verifiable hardness) an pH 6,8.

Regards from the whole crusta10 team!
