Missing antennae?

Post by Beansly »

I was looking for the red claw macro shrimp in my 125 gallon tank, which are hard to find sometimes as they are only about ghost shrimp size yet. I noticed one seemed to be missing it's long antennae. It seemed ok, other wise. Could this be due to fighting in the tank, or fighting during shipping, or is there some other way it could lose its antennae? There is also one bristlenose pleco in the tank, that's it, but he seems oblivious to the shrimp's presence. They have moulted, at least some of them have, I saw the exoskeletons, which were gone later. Just wondering.

Little scuffles among the shrimp happen and a damaged antenna, claw or leg, especially after molting when the shrimp are helpless, is more or less normal. But not to worry, with every molt body parts (except eyes) are replaced/grow back.
