Questions regarding Shrimps

Post by sridharp77 »

Hi,

I have CRS, Tiger and Red Cherry shrimps. Plan to add more varieties in future. I have a couple of questions regarding shrimps. What is the average life span of a healthy shrimp? Another thing I wanted to ask you is that has anyone been feeding beef heart mix to shrimps. Does it harm the shrimp if we feed them beef heart mix regularly?

Regards,

Sridhar.P

The dwarf algae eating shrimp, such as the ones you have now, have life spans of about 1.5 years if kept healthy. Amanos have spans of a few years, one member even mentioned theirs were 5 years and counting. I have never fed my shrimp beef hearts so I can't answer that one. Keep you shrimp healthy and let us know how long your shrimp live, you may be surprised and have some live much longer than expected

Hey, I have some amano shrimps in my tank and as I was feeding my discus beefheart, I just tried it as an experiment to see if shrimps like it too. Once i put some in the water, OMG, every shrimp literally swam through everything just to eat the beefheart. Even when it was floating in the water.

Downside: they leave a big mess since they cant eat it all.. they just nibble and take in the tiny pieces that they can eat. Which is why I dont feed it very often. Theres enough plants and algae in the tank already =).
