Water conditioners for shrimps

Do any of you have a preference?

So far they are not using chloramines in our water, so I've been using Tetra Aquasafe.

I don't use any conditioner. I have a water holding tank with airstone and an external filter. Usually the water is in the tank for at least 2 days or more before I use it for the shrimp tank (my tape water is from Lake Michigan).

I added a UV to a 30gal tank that holds Crystal Red shrimps. It clears up the green water in 2 days. It was so green I can see through only about 1".

that a good way if your water dont have Chloramine.
if your water have chloramine holding it for whatever days you want , this will remove chlorine but not chloramine.

I should mention that I do have active carbon in the filter.

i dont anything , since i use R/O

but i will have to , because i am setting up a tank at work and i will have the treat the water there.

why use 2 conditionner ?
it is now a long time since i use a conditionner, i thimk more than 5 years now

I don't use both. I primarily use Koordon Amquel+, but have Seachem Prime too. If I run out of one, I canuse the other.

I only use seachem prime for my 30% water changes. I take out the amount of water i want than use 70% tap water which i add seachem prime to that then pour into my tank than fill the rest with R/O water no problems no need for aging the water and all that hassle.

I have a question for people who use AMquel+ and the one who use Amquel ?

why one and not the other ?

and prim is it better than Amquel or Amquel+

I've never used just palin Amquel, so I don't know what one has that the other doesn't. I'm pretty sure the + is a totally different formulation.

I don't think there ismuch difference betwen Amquel+ and Prime. Prime is a few cents a dose less, but Amquel + is easier to use in small tanks as it takes more, so you don't have to split drops.

I ran out of Amquel+ and has some Prime on the shelf and have been using it. No big difference. Use what ever is easily available to you.

I have to agree. I used to use another type of water conditioner until I keep hearing about Seachem Prime from other forum members. I have been using it for a couple of months and no problem at all.

I used to work for a leading company that made aquarium water conditioners and other products. There is certainly a lot of hype and marketing around aquarium additives, and I agree with Mustafa (in other posts) in that adding a product to eliminate something is BS, however most detoxify things pretty well. Most water conditioners do the same things...mainly detoxify chlorine and/or chloramine and detoxify heavy metals. Some add stuff to stimulate slime coating on fish, some add bacterial additives to help the biological filtration, and some add a myraid of herbal extracts to enable claims of everything from increased egg laying to better color. Best thing is to use what works, what is a good value, and what is liked by breeders and pet stores. Most products out there are not "bad", but many use very diluted concentrations of active ingredients, and are a poor value, or use chemicals that have questionable origins that may not result in consistently good product. THe most dangerous thing are the claims. Very few chemicals can be "removed" from an aquaium by merely adding a chemical...you are just converting it chemically to something less harmful. And then there is the whole thing about adding chemicals.

I believe in adding DI or RO water and adding a balance of minerals and nutrients that are beneficial to the specific organisms you are trying to raise...in this case, shrimp. Over the past few months, I tried to save time on water changes in my 40 gal planted tank with C. japonica, and used tap water treated with a water conditioner. Apparently, it wasn't working, because I lost many shrimp. I'm back to reconstituted DI water, and my Amano's are breeding like crazy after just a week.
