Reddish Amano?

Is it normal for some amanos to be redder in coloration than others? One of my females is a lot redder than any other one I've seen (not that I've seen that many) and it appears to be because the tiny tiny little dots that make up their coloration are red for her and not brownish.

Is this likely to be the result of a dye (like blue amanos) or a mutation? Or is this normal for some?

I tried to take pictures before, but my camera's no good for shrimp.

This would just be an example of normal variation within a population. Some will be more red, others more brown, etc.

This can also mean that your shrimp is about to die, especially if the rest of the body is milky instead of more or less see-through.

I agree with YuccaPatrol on this. I have seen the artificially blue amanos and they are solid blue bodies with the little dots. As you stated, the red in your female is due to its natural dots on the body which is unlikely to be cause by artificial injected dye.

This past weekend
I say 2 Amanos at the LPS.
And they had a redish tint to them. the body was clear.
Not the Milky White SIgn of Death.

The redish ones , stuck out like a sore thumb.

Hmmm, I may have to look into this NewJohn, since we both frequent the same LFS.

Amanos were on my possible purchase list. More likely cherries though.

Ahhh. I remember seeing that tank. They are a MUCH better store then most, but theyve still got a few things to learn lol. I'm teaching them some stuff about puffers too.

She's not about to die, she's been like this since I bought her months ago and is very healthy and active (not milky).
