So I went back to my LFS to try and get some black Asian Filter shrimps, but they hadn't got any with their new delivery But I bought these guys instead, I think they are just really huge Asian Filter shrimp, am I right? They have much larger front legs than any other i've seen, larger than other shrimps in the tank with the same body size. There ARE two in the photo!! They are not vampire / giant african shrimp, and they have a big 'thorn' on their front legs. I don't care if they are just plain Asian filter shrimp because I like them! I am also aware they may be very old and might not live very long, but they only cost me £1.49 each and they'll be much happier in my tank than a pet shop.
So how big are your new shrimp? They just might be male Asian filter shrimp from your discription and photo. If you have prepared your tank to fit their needs for water current and a perching place then they should be fine Also, what sized tank are you using for these shrimp? Please keep us updated.

The big orange one is 3" or 8cm long. The white/grey one (you can just see his face) is a bit smaller.
I currently keep two other Asian Filter shrimps and two Amanos and have had shrimps previously, I have two pumps to provide a current and plenty of climbing and hiding places. They can also climb and stand near the filter inlet and outlets. I'll post some pics of my tank in the tank section...
Oh here's a thought, they won't bother the smaller, presumably female tank mates will they? They've seemed fine so far, but it's only been a couple of hours...
Filter shrimp are safe as they only filter feed on the tiniest of particles and they don't have claws to hunt with. My shrimp's favorite pastime is perching and filter feeding with its flowery arms
Oh dear, my new giant male shrimp, the orange one, shed last night only a couple of hours after going in the tank. I've only just noticed he seems to have lost his front right big leg!! He is now just hiding in the top corner of my tank and not moving or feeding. The smaller one seems fine and wanders around and filters.
Ah well, not much I can do, must be something to do with how he was kept before I guess.
Just be sure he has a good place to hide. They get really stressed when they shed. Losing a leg is not a real big deal as they grow back after a molt or two.
If there is no suitable hiding place they may leave the tank.
