Great! I am glad to hear that it went just as well for you as it did for me.
Honestly, though, I think the BGA is worse for shrimp than the Maracyn. In the BGA plague of '03 on my 75 gallon tank, I lost all of my amanos. In retrospect, I'm sure it was because the BGA smothered out all of the "normal" algae and since there were only a couple of fish in the tank at the time, I was feeding VERY sparingly to try to keep the nutrients down (which, by the way didn't work). The poor little buggers must've starved.
It is sad because up to that point they had seemed virtually indestructable.

Hi, Newbe here. :-D

I've been searching the web, and books, to isolate my tank probelm. I've had the tank a year now, and my tetras have litte to no fins. :( My water quality is good, and has been for a long time. One website I read said to isolate if it is velvet by shining a flashlight on my fish in a dark room. My fish lit up like gold dust. I've never treated for velvet, but now I'm afraid I must. I also have weird algae that looks brown... is that it? My 2 shrimp seem unaffected (I guess because of their exoskeleton). How do I treat my tank, without hurting my shrimp?

Mardel Labs say to use Maracide or CopperSafe, and then Use Maracyn-Two to prevent secondary infections. I've read on your site that copper hurts shrimp, so that's a no-go. Will the malachite green and chitosan in Maracide hurt the shrimp? If I put the shrimp in a 2 gallon tank while I treat the 30 gallon, won't they just reintroduce the infection when I return the shrimp to the 30 gallon? :smt017

I've tried PimaFix and MelaFix, but they didn't work. Darn. :smt022

Your experience is greatly needed and appreciated. :smt104

i have tried erythromiacin tablets in a black package with cherry reds. They did fine, and I treated for a week. The algae hasn't come back, it's been a year.

At this point I'm willing to try anything. Thank you for your reply. I'll post how the treatment goes after it is said and done.
