I was just thinking...

Post by AnneRiceBowl »

...Would it be wise to move my Singapore female that's carrying eggs from the 30 gallon to the 20 gallon?

The reason that I am asking is because the 30 gallon that all 5 of my Singapore shrimp are in has a Paradise fish juvie, a male betta splendens, 3 SAEs, and 5 harlequin rasboras. I've seen on of the harlequins eat a RCS shrimplet, and I wouldn't put it past the other fish in the tank to try to eat zoes or shrimplets. The 20 gallon has RCS and 4 otos in it. There's plenty of current in the 20 and a spot that she can perch in to fan. The 20 has the same water as the 30.

Absolutely. If they hatch in that tank they will be eaten immediately.

if you mean singapore as in bamboo shrimp then wouldn't it be futile? I mean don't they need salt water to hatch? I could be confusing it for some fan shrimp i've never heard of that requires fresh water to grow up. If i am could somebody tell me?

I could be hallucinating. i am pretty tired. but all filter shrimp (on my computer through my tired eyes at least) say they grow up normally. In other words, brackish to full strength seawater.....and I'm pretty sure that the varieties section doesn't have all the shrimp in the business, just a large majority of them. I am apparently missing something. 48 hours without sleeping is not good for the mind, or so I'm told. good night :smt015

Alright, I will move her. Thanks once again badflash! :-D

Pea-brain and The Fisherman, I don't think you 2 have read it yet, but I have a thread on here titled "Aytopsis moluccenis Carrying Eggs!". I have 2 seperate tanks that are set up for when the eggs hatch. Thank you though. ;-)

No, they won't hatch is salt water and the mother will die. The zoes hatch in fresh water and harden up for a few days. They are washed into the sea where they mature, then move back upstream to fresh water.

Can I move all my Singapore shrimp into the 20 long, (I have 5) or am I pushing my luck? I can move the otos out in a few days when I get the filter for the 10 gallon.

No, that is fine as long as there is good flow at one end and no chance of sucking the zoes into the filter. The otos won't hirt anything.

Thanks badflash. I'll finish moving the others tonight. I'll also have to put another type of sponge over the filter intake.
