Are These Ingredients Safe?

Hey! I just got in 2 different foods. One is HBH 8 Veggie Flake, and the ingredient that I am cncerned about is Copper Proteinate. The other food is HBH Crab & Lobster Bites, and the ingredient that I am concerned about is Copper Sulfate. I just wanted to be sure of these ingredients before I fed them to my RCS, snowballs, Singapores, and ghosts.

These food are being used to feed shrimp. The amount of copper is low as shown by their order on the package, the larger the amount of ingredient the earlier the order and the less the later the order of printing. It may not have an effect or it may take a long time to have an effect, but I have not heard of definate effects yet. I feed my shrimp Hakari Crab Cuisine and Hakari micro wafers, which are individually sized for each adult shrimp and they can't get enough

Personally, I wouldn't feed either food to my shrim or crayfish when there are so many other good options for high quality foods that do not contain any added copper. However, these are used for inverts and the small trace of copper certainly won't be immediately toxic. Although we should avoid all copper in our tanks, fertilizers, poor quality tap water, and medications are all sources of much higher concentrations of dangerous heavy metals.

Omega One foods are my favorite because they are made in Alaska from FRESH whole fish and seafood (same as us harvested for human food) and have a minimum of fillers. For instance, their veggie rounds (algae wafers) contain kelp and spirulina as the first ingredients. Many other types of algae wafers contain fish meal and flour with vegetable ingredients surprisingly far down the list.

I also use the Hikari Crab Cuisine as a convenience food, but I don't think it is quite as nice as the Omega One.

Certainly there are a LOT fo quality foods out there that I haven't tried. I search for a list of ingredients that is as natural and simple as possible.

hey since this topic is here can I ask about some ingredients too? Cause I recently bought some wardley tropical crumbles, and the ingredients include iron oxide and choline chloride. these ingredients sound rather fishy (No pun inteded

) does anyone know if any of these ingredients are dangerous at all (I know iron oxide is, but not as much as iron sulfate, right?)

Iron oxide is more commonly called rust ( the brown stuff that eats old cars and trucks). I don't see why it would be toxic to inverts in the small concentration in the food. I'm curious about what they extract from crayfish...

I use both hbh flakes and the crab bites and have never noticed any impact on the shrimp or crayfish I feed. These are not staple diets for them. I feed something different every day. And I do water changes once a week. I would not recommend to feed these foods exclusively. Change it up a little.

I agree Jason, variety is what I try to provide. I rotate the foods I feed my shrimp and they seem to appreciate it as they gobble up the different food I provide

Thanks for all the responses! I have decided to NOT feed either food to my shrimp.
