Tanganyikan water & Bamboo Shrimp

I am aware that Bamboo Shrimp like water slightly acidic. I am also aware that most aquaria can adapt to different water chemistry if adapted slowly.

I have 6 Bamboo shrimp, 4 Asian & 2 African in a 40 gallon tank. I have four more Asians in a 300 gallon tank. I was going to move the 6 in the 40 to the 300 and convert the 40 to a Tanganyikan shellie tank. However, the four in the 300 are hardly ever seen. The tank is heavily planted and so big that they get lost in the tank.

I know that the Shellies won't harm the shrimp, they will be 1/2 the size and are only aggressive with themselves. But, can the Bamboo Shrimp be adapted to a pH of 8.5 with hard water and Afican Salts?

I never had any luck keep this shrimp in high pH. What kind of fish do you have anyway?

Even if you did read it before you might want to look at the "shrimp varieties" page about these shrimp. Here is an exerpt:

can live under a wide range of ph and hardness conditions from acidic to alkaline, but prefers to live in soft, acidic water.

It is always best to keep them in prefered conditions but if you have to acclimate them to different parameters you may want to do it gradally via the drip method.

Also, it does not matter how big the fish are, even small fish can kill a just molted Bamboo Shrimp due to its softness after the molt.

Also, it does not matter how big the fish are, even small fish can kill a just molted Bamboo Shrimp due to its softness after the molt.

These Shrimp have been in with Cockatoos, Blue Rams and Bolivian Rams for 2 years without incident. The Caudopunks have the same aggresion level as the Rams & Cockatoos.

I decided to add the 6 Bamboos to my 300 gallon tank. I have four in there doing great. The six I added I've had for 2 years. Unfortunately I found on dead when I got home from work last night. They have always been active and healthy, don't know why she died, it was a female. Maybe it was getting ready to molt and the stress of the move made this happen. The water & temp were identical, just very sad this happened

Sorry for your loss, it just happens sometimes without a known cause. As long as the other shrimp are doing well you should not have to do anything futher. Please keep us updated.
