Blue Shrimp and "Superred Cherry" Shrimp
Here are some pictures:

The above picture (admittedly bad picture) is of one of my egg carrying blue shrimp (had to use a male Red Cherry since I had no male blue shrimp. The red coloration is recessiv, so the offpspring should be normal blue shrimp (some with a receissive red gene)). Both the blue shrimp and the the Red Cherries are Neocaridina denticulata sinensis, i.e. the same species.
And here is one of my extremely red Cherry shrimp. I have two of these and I am exploring if this coloration can be selectively bred. I have never seen such an extreme bright red on any freshwater shrimp before. This color is truly solid as opposed to the more "see-through" red of most Cherry Reds. The coloration is so solid that you cannot even see the eggs of an egg carrying female through the carapace:

Hi Mustafa,
Thanks for posting the pic of the blue shrimp....
Maybe it's the back ground but it seems more green then blue.
Very cool pic of the (Blood?) Red cherry!:smt023
Good luck in breeding true, I don’t see why you would not be able to do so.
You just need to breed relatives together...
BTW How did you end up with cherries that coloration? By luck? (I'm referring to the (Blood?) Red cherries)

I can't wait to take sharper pictures, too! My camera is a "point and shoot" digital camera. I hold a lense in front of it for macro shots.amber2461 wrote: Nice colouration ... can't wait for you to take sharper pictures ...
At some point I will invest in a better camera. For now...the "less than perfect" pictures will have to do.

Those red shrimp are great though...every time I walk by their tank I have to stop and watch them for while thinking: "Damn they're red!" Every time!

Amanda,Hmm. Maybe it's your monitor (maybe it's mine) but to me it looks pretty blue. Maybe a little turquoise-y, but definitely not green.
Could be.... But I'm at my parents right now and comparing two monitors from different computers side by side, it still looks kinda green... I would probably help if the background were not GREEN java moss.

But I trust Mustafa, if there blue, there blue!

I already stop and gaze at my shrimps for at least a hour everytime I walk by their tank, if I were to have one with the same red as yours ... I am afraid my hubby might give me an ultimatum ...
