I have a rather new aquarium and so far I have had two successful pregnant cherries and two drop their eggs. Now today I looked again and found another pregnant and saw this...
Any ideas why I seem to be losing half and what is going on with that one. I have noticed this before when a preg lets some eggs hang out but never in the front. Maybe its because im using stresscoat water conditioner?
These behaviors sometime happen with shrimp who are inexperienced. Some catch on quickly and have smooth egg carrying/hatching and it takes others long and painful lessons in the beginning. Well enjoy the babies and let us know how this female with the eggs in front does . I am guessing they will drop
I would doubt it has anything to do with the water conditoner you are using, but Prime is good stuff and very economical because it is so concentrated.
I just found one of my adult cherries dead Its still red but its upside down and not moving. I am removing it and preforming a 20 percent water change, all other shrimp seem fine happily searching for food. I am sad
All i have is stresscoat and that is all that anyone carries around here so i have no choice until i order some prime.
The one that died was one of my largest and brightest cherries, i am going to keep a very close eye on the aquarium, if it starts to go south, ill transfer them to my gf fish tank and put the fish in mine, but ill never be able to get my cherries all out of her tank as I have some that were born only a few days ago.

Does your gf also use the same dechlorinator for her fish tank? I think it may still be better not to move them at this point. Sorry to hear about you lossing the shrimp .
Most dechlorinators, like Stress Coat bind with the chlorine. It also binds with the chlorine contained in the chloramine. Unfortunately, one of the bi-products is ammonia (chloramine - chlorine = ammonia). Other products, like Prime, also bind with the ammonia, still making it available for plants and bacteria, but harmless to inhabitants, like fish and shrimp. Therefore, there's an assumption made that the small amounts of ammonia left over from using Stress Coat could be harmful to the eggs.
If you search around, many people had no success with eggs when using to Stress Coat. When they later switched to Prime, they had better success. I was one of these shrimp keepers. I had RCS for several months and always used Stress Coat. I've seen lots of shrimps with eggs, but no babies. A few weeks after switching to Prime, I started seeing more babies and continue seeing them.
