RCS Reverting to wild form?

Post by southerndesert »

As most here already know I have a community tank with fish and shrimp and it is heavily planted as well (29G)

The RCS in this tank are slowly disappearing, but they are not being eaten or dying... Instead they have been losing their red more and more with each generation and turning dark green. The photo is not real clear as she was not in the mood to pose, but you can see her well enough I think to see what I am asking. The males are clear green as would be expected.

I actually really like this color and may start another tank to selectively breed them. My question is if indeed these shrimp are changing back to their natural color? If so why would that be?

There have only been GS and Bamboo Shrimp in this tank other than cherries so a cross on my end is unlikely. Is this something that can just happen due to environment or simply a bad batch of cherries? An inquiring mind needs to know

Like I said I really like this new color and I now have more of this type than red now.

I think indeed I did read it quite some time ago, but it apparently didn't sink into my thick skull. Sorry... And indeed my question has been answered and I think I will re-read a bit next time.

I do still think I like them...:)

They actually do look nice to me also. But any berried shrimp is a nice thing to see :)

I like them, too! :) It would actually be great to breed a solid brown or solid black Neocaridina sp.. I'll give it a shot in the future, too. It will need a LOT of selective breeding, though.
