Cherry Shrimp cannot mix?

Post by larlee »

Hi,
I got a batch of Cherry shrimp and somehow it seems to be dying every other day. Other shrimps in the tank is fine but cherry cannot survive.

Home Tank:
60x36x36
temp: 26-28
AC fan
PH: 6.4
ammonia: 0
nitrite: 0

it has green shrimp, orange shrimp and all seems ok but cherry is decreasing in numbers.

My office tank is also facing the same problems, it has CRS and malayan shrimps with cherry but cherry is all wipe out.

MY other 2 colleague's tank is also facing similar problems.

Does cherry has to be by its own?

please tell us more about where your Cherry shrimp came from and if they all came from the same seller.

Cherry shrimp can live with almost any other type of fresh water shrimp and should not be having special/solitary problems just specific to themselves.

my cherry came from the same local fish shop and it should come from the same supplier. my other 2 colleagues might have gotten them from different supplier.

The problem might be the conditions and stress the shrimp had gone through before they reached you. I am sure you acclimated them into your tank the way you did the other shrimp.

It looks more and more like the problem is coming from the supplier's end. The shrimp are so weak and stressed by the time they reach you. If all the other types of shrimp are doing well and only one type is showing signs of being sick/dying then I would have to say it is due to the supplier. Anyone else have another theory?

did you get them on special order or did the place you get them from have them in a tank?
one place i normally have to go to get special orders in from won't take shrimp out the delivery bags they come in so i need to rush to the lfs to get them aclimatised and in my tank asap. (i found that out the hard way the first time i ordered from them and picked what was left of my order up 3 days later. if only they said they wouldnt remove them from the bags :( .) so my theory is if you got them in ordered specially for you did they stay in the bags they were delivered to the pet shop in or did they put them in a tank. either way i think it may either be the supplier or the pet shop.

when i purchased them, they came in 2 forms. In the tank and in the bags, i would usually take those in the tank as i dont know how long have they stayed in the bags without filtration, etc etc (ammonia built up) in the tank, there are many shrimps so i can see their condition etc. Strange thing is, once those that survive through, they are fine....
