What kind of shrimp is this?
I have some shrimp that I got from the LFS awhile back. He gave me the name zeylanica. I can't really find any information on them. He told me that the blue ones were males and the red one were females but I find them changing color often, red, brown, blue, clearish yellow, etc. Does anyone know the proper name? scientific or common?

Malayan shrimp or what is sometimes called Caridina sp. 'zeylanica':

Chameleon shrimp (a predatory long-arm species):

Often, you'll see Malayan shrimp and Amano shrimp together and labelled as "algae-eating shrimp." Truth is, Malayans aren't nearly as effective for algae control. They're nice to look at, though, when they come out of hiding
