New Tank Set-up

Post by ShrimpDude »

Hello everyone,

To start I have never breed/raised CRS. However, I have recently purchased some online! I'm looking at setting up the ideal starter tank so I thought I would enlist help from the experts for feedback. Here's what I've got so far.
1. 10 gal tank flourescent lite tank.
2. Black sand, Aragonite reef sand. (I'm unsure if this is a wise choice)
3. Petrified wood covered with java moss
3. sponge filter & air wall aeriator
4. submersible heater

I would like to add more plants but don't know if that is wise or not. The purpose of the tank is primarily for keeping and breeding my new shrimp. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Hello ShrimpDude and welcome to the forum,

Check out the articles section of the main site about setting uip a tank etc. Very helpful stuff (as well as a requirement to use this forum). You will find water parameters to be very important in shrimp keeping and your CRS will be needing temps in the low 70s as well as a PH around 6.5 to 6.8 to breed and be happy.

Your 10 gallon will be fine as long as you familiarize yourself with exactly what your shrimp will need....

Cheers, Bill
