How do I hatch out the shrimp's eggs?

Post by UnknownUser »

I have had 2 preg ghost shrimp... One morning I woke up and the eggs were just gone... Ok so i assumed maybe the filter sucked the up... Then the second batch of eggs.. This story is quite sick... The female was eating a pellet I put in for them, so she was eating the pelet... then.. she dropped all her eggs on the ground and i started freaking out that something bad would happen... And it did... she slowly gatherd up the eggs and stared eating them! all of them! Except 4 that I got out and have in a cup of water in hopes that they will hatch..

So now I just bought 4 cherry shrimp and all of them are preg!! And I want the eggs to hatch so i can have my own babies but i am worried!
What should I do!?!? Put them in a Beta bowl and let them live in there until something happens with the babies?? Should I just cross my fingers that everything works out naturally? Or should I get the eggs from the mom and try hatching them myself some how??

Please someone help me!!!! please please please i need advice really bad here.

First of all relax.

Shrimp carry their eggs until they hatch, they do not lay them. If a female has let them go, they were probably no good. Ghost shrimp can be tricky depending on what species you have, all hatch into larva, some need salty water. Cherries on the other hand require no help. You should have a ton in a couple of weeks.

Just sit back and enjoy.

I hope so... I would love to have tons of babies, but with that ghost shrimp... One minute she was eating a pellet then she dropped the eggs let the pellet go gathered the eggs and ate them! It was like bait and switch.. totally not attractive at all!! Thats why I worry about these little babies these cherry shrimp are carring..

Don't try to take the eggs off the mother, its really hard to do. They are attached with this jelly like stuff that is very difficult to get off even if the shrimp is dead . If the eggs are dropped they are probably not fertile or something else was wrong with them. Just relax and let nature take its course. You can help it out by making sure there are no fish to eat the babies and that the filter is set up so the babies won't get sucked in.
