Shrimp Id confirmation

Post by Kanard »

Hi
The other day at my local fish store (which specialises in outdoor ponds & kois) I saw a big tank on one side looked dirty and half abandoned, looking further in detail i realized it was full of shrimps and had a label "freshwater shrimps 15 for £2, Ideal far carnivorous fishes" (yes am in the UK). I kind of felt sorry for these guys left in a bare bottom tank without anything awaiting for their fate in the stomach of a big hungry koi.
I think they are glass shrimps, however can anyone confirm. Quite a few of them looked berried.

(sorry for the quality of the pic my camera phone is not that good)

It's hard to tell from this picture, but from the information you have provided and the little I can recognize in the pictures it should be Macrobrachium lanchesteri.

Thanks for the details, I bough them!
A few died within 2 days but most of them look alive and well. Will try to post more pics.
I've noticed the seem to be showing some dack lines now although they where almost completly transpaerent when i get them, is this expected?
For the berried ones any chance of them surviving on their own (my tanks ask quite some hiding places) or will need specialized food?

The larvae need to be in a tank of their own, otherwise the female will snack on them. Bringing up larvae is not all that easy, I would recommend doing a few searches on that in this forum to get a good idea.
