I only know them by their "trade name". I'm not even positive they really are Sri Lankan. They are reproducing nicely for me now. Not sure why they were ever labeled Neon Red except they definitely have a red digestive tract that shows through when young. My photos don't seem to be capturing that though. The females carry kind of dark olive green eggs. I have 2 females carrying right now. Looks like there are probably 20-30 eggs. The female in the picture below seems to be carrying fewer then the other one. They have an abbreviated larval stage that fortunately does not require salt. Mature females are a little over an inch long and males seem to be slightly smaller.
They seem to like the water temp I am keeping them in (80F) and my pH (7.
and Hardness (moderate). I did lose about half of them pretty quickly and a few more since. I am now down to about 6 of the original 20. They were imported and shipped to me the next day. That' I guess is to be expected with wild caught shrimp... I didn't see the larval shrimpettes until about a month and a half ago. I think there are 2 different batches of them in the tank. There are two different sizes for sure.Sorry for the photo quality. I am shooting them in the tank and not terribly patient...
