I just got this rosenbergii
I would like to know if it is male or female, and also, if the information I was given is correct as to keeping it.
I was told it could be kept in a 24x12" tank which seemed small to me so it is in a 36x12 filtered by 2 AC70's (I've been keeping fish ten years and have had amano shrimp for a long time). He/she lives alone. Temp is about 79F. pH is 7.6ish kH is about 7 gH is about 7. This is my tap water.
It has not eaten a whole lot. I got it yesterday. Didn't really touch New Life Spectrum pellets or frozen mysis shrimp. Today it moulted (above photo) which concerns me because I suspect this to be a 'stress moult' and have observed it in amano shrimp many times after they are moved.
Any suggestions, harsh or kind are welcome.
Her/his tank consists of a white silica sand bottom and some silica sandstone caves.. so it's very white. I wonder if this may make the shrimp uncomfortable and if I should modify the environment, and if so, how.
I've been unable to find any substantial or verifiable information on how they are kept in captivity.
There's a giant male at my local Zoo in tap water on a gravel bottom with a few plants and no cave and he seems well he has been there for some years now.
