I have a 50 gallon tank with 11 guppies right now and was wanting to get a couple shrimp to go in the tank as well. I have never had a shrimp before so I need a type that is easy to maintain, and one that will work well with the fish I already have. I live in Japan, so the people at the fish store are really no help, but I have a couple of really nice fish stores here to choose from that have a variety of shrimp.
Right now I have no plants in my tank, but was planning on putting some for some hiding spots for my guppies and potentially the shrimp. Right now I have rocks in the bottom of the tank, and a tree branch in the middle. Any advice I could get would be great because I do not want to buy a shrimp without making sure I can keep it healthy.

Re: Best Beginner Shrimp in a tank with guppies
Hello
And welcome to this Forum.
Are you just trying to keep Shrimp in with your Guppies ?
Shrimp are best kept in a Species only Tank if you are trying to breed them.
If you are attempting to just keep them in with your Guppies.
You will need dense cover for them to hide in and not be pestered by the Fish.
And the young Shrimp will have a chance to survive to adulthood.
Red Cherry Shrimp( RCS ) would be a good shrimp to start with.

I've had a 60 gallon with a massive colony of breeding guppies, I added ghosts in there, they did fine as long as rocks and wood was present to hide under.
Guppies never attacked the shrimp, but they just preferred it.
I remember adding a 2 dollar bag (maybe 20 shrimp?) and a year later I still had at least 10.
