Questions about breeding shrimps

Post by riderfaiz »

Hi everyone, hope you can help... I am new into this hobby and now I am addicted to this hobby!!

My tank setup: 20 Gallon. Temp is about 21 centigrade. Ph is about 6.8. Nitrate is close to zero. But not sure about hardness. I have a sponge filter and my canister filter is on and off. The tank is up for over 2 months. I have about 30 cherry and 20 crystal red (young one). I have a lot of plants in the tank and they were growing great.

First question:

I have some berried shrimp (Cherry red). But so far I never see any hatch. One time I saw some eggs with the shell from muta. So I saved them...and put in a breeder net box in the same tank. But after a week, I could not see the eggs anymore but I do not see shrimp baby either... why? I could see the two black dots (eyes) on each egg bfore so I thought they would be hatched. Some other berried shrimps just ran out of eggs and no hatch either.. What else do I need to do?

Second question:

If I want the shrimps to "pregnant"...do I need to put the small amount of males and females in a seperate place? How do they meet each other? Do I need to setup some special environment for them to "mate"?

Also, how old can a crystal red shrimp start to mate?

Thank you for your help.

Just check out my reply to your post in the other thread. You do not need to do anything special for your shrimp to breed. Just make them feel happy and make sure they stay that way. That usually involved a bunch of doing....nothing. If you mess around too much with a shrimp tank you cause more harm than anything else. Other than that, just read up on all the information on this website and perform some searches on the forum for a few hours, days etc. A lot of these questions have been discussed and the replies from past years will be immensely helpful to a beginner like you.
