How did you guys get to know so much about shrimp? Is there a college class, or is it just experience?

Totally agree - yes, thanks Professor Mustafa ! I really wish to see in the near furture a guidebook on shrimps by Mustafa in bookshops. I do hope that the book will contain colored photos, at least one species gets one photo.

Addition :

I hope to see photos in the book because we speak different languages from every cornerl around the world. I believe photos can help a lot in identifying different species so that we can be sure what we're talking about. What's more, I'm sure that makes the book look much more attractive.

Hi Becky!

Before I write a book with a lot of pictures I have to get a nice photo camera first. :-D My current camera is just a simple "point and shoot" digital camera and my pictures are accordingly *terrible*.

I'll let everyone know if I write a book about shrimp though. So far this website is doing a good job informing people and can be kept up to date much better than a book.

Mustafa,

How about a magazine? I get a Japanese publication called Water Animal which deals with shrimp, crabs, aquatic insects and other freshwater and saltwater invertebrates. In the January issue there were articles on breeding and selecting for colour in Bee Shrimp. There are several articles on crayfish and yabbies as well shop reviews and excellent photos.

And best of all is an interview with the people from the JCC(Japan Crayfish Club) http://www.j-cc.net

The publication is from Tokai Media http://www.tokai-media.co.jp

Hi Mustafa,

Yes yes, this website is doing an excellent job indeed and everybody can share and discuss about shrimps here. Well, having a book can let me read wherever I'm. And I love books.

Hi Edinjapan,

I saw a Japanese magazine last Sunday here in the fish street in Hong Kong. The cover shows freshwater shrimps. I didn't buy it coz I can't read Japanese :(

there are plenty of great pix out there. i'm sure if u asked the owner of the pix, u can use them in the book/magazine. but honestly, i'd rather read info here than in a book or other media. the info here is much more diverse and, as with quite a number of animals, ymmv according to water conditions, etc. i don't think it would exactly be possible to capture all the info in a book per se. just my 2cts.

What was the name? Was the cover art a big blue yabbie with a crystal red bee shimp in the lower right corner?

Hi Edinjapan,

I can't remember exactly. The shop keeper introduced it to me, but I can't read the language and therefore I didn't pay attention to the details. As far as I remember, the background colour of the cover is white, with many tiny red shrimps in the middle.

Hi Edinjapan,

Here in the fish street in Hong Kong, shops sell both old and new issues, but at the same price. Magazines issued in year 2003 cost the same as 2005 issues.

Hi Ed!

A magazine would be nice, but that will have to happen in the future. :) Right now my hands are more than full with this website. Plus, the shrimp hobby has not spread enough in the US yet to warrant a magazine. This website is laying the groundstone for the shrimp hobby. Give it a couple of years and things will look dramatically different here in the US.
