Photos of tank

Post by attygirl »

I finally got out my old digital camera and started to play. I did not know it take close ups!

This is a "modern" betta bowl from Petsmart. I added blue gravel, two coral rocks, shells, and plastic plants. The light is a LCD desk lamp that is on 12 hours a day.

Close up of a few opae. I also purchased macro-algae from here and stuck it under the shells and behind the coral.

Though my tank has been cycling since mid-May, there is no visible algae on the coral which worries me ...

If you have had you tank since mid-may I would be a little concerned because the shrimp are colored with a very light pink and a lot seem to be clear. Also, having no algae is also concerning from what I can tell you might want to put the tank by a window because there is nothing better than NATURAL light!

LeShrimp: Thanks for your thoughts. 8) I cycled the tank for a few weeks before adding the shrimp, snails and marco-algae. They have been in the tank since June 6. Previously, when I moved the tank to the window, the shrimp got all excited and swam around like crazy. In another post, Mustafa said this is what opae do when they are disturbed - - - so I stopped moving the tank to the window.

Below is a better photo showing white "stuff" under the gravel that has developed since starting the tank. Does anyone know if this is shrimp waste? Or the start of algae growing?? Thanks.

Thanks for the pictures! See, your camera is just fine. :) It's still hard to tell on the picture what the whitish stuff is, but it's probably some organic waste...either from the snails or shrimp. I don't see anything out of the ordinary (as in anything alarming or negative) in your tank, so just let it sit there and don't touch it anymore. :-D It may take a month, or two, or three, but eventually your shrimp will color up more and start running around more actively.
