Hello all!

Post by Kaioushin »

Hello all!
I've just registered to post... I've been reading on this site and this forum for about a month now. I just wanted to introduce myself, so, hi!
I fell in love with shrimp about a month ago, when I decided to give my betta some companions. I had him in a small 2 gallon tank, when I added in two "ghost shrimp" that I bought from Wal-Mart. A few days later, I notice one of the shrimps has eggs. Already the shrimp are more interesting than my fish. My betta got sick, I took him out to treat him, blah blah... shrimp going on strong. I noticed tonight when I got home that my shrimp had an egg hanging out of place? What the heck is going on? I watch closer... she's moving different than normal... hey! A speck with eyes! I'm now the proud owner of 3 baby ghosties :D (well... that's all I watched emerge... I think there's a couple more hidden somewhere... they're soooo hard to see!)

I'm enjoying my shrimp more than my Everquest2.
Heh. Anyways, nice to meet you all :P

Welcome! Have you thought about moving them to a bigger tank at all? They would definitely be a lot more happy. Just a suggestion. :D

Welcome! Its always great to have more dedicated shrimpers, especially ghost shrimpers (my fav!). Just keep alot of suspended foods and plants so your larvae will live! Long live the ghosties!

Hey, great to hear some replies :)
I just got a 10 gallon tank which I will be moving the shrimp into in a little while, once the babies get a little bigger and the new tank cycles. I'm really new to the hobby and confused about some stuff...

I've been looking in a lot of places for Java moss, but this is a really small town, and I haven't been able to find any. When I was in a bigger town, with a PetCo (lol) they didn't have any either. Can anyone tell me where I can get java moss?

Also I'm trying to feed my baby ghosties with finely crushed flake food. Is that a good idea? Or is there something better to feed them with?

Thanks!

If you can't find java moss locally, then a good place to get some at a decent price would be ebay or aquabid (when it is back up and running).

--Just crushed flake will probably still be too large. You will have to use a mortar and pestle to finely ground it. The larvae do like moving things better though, so if you can provide them with infusoria, baby brine shrimp or tiny copepods it would be better.
