Breeding? Time, patience and steady water parameters. That is my opinion. Rob has been having good luck you could read his posts.

Hi. The quantity of shrimp I believe is a personal decision. More shrimp more action. Also more shrimp may also be more likely that someone will breed. Law of averages? But it maybe like the lottery, two lottery tickets does not double your chances of winning. Why size tank? 2.5-5 gallon? 25 shrimp in a 2.5 gallon tank. Less hiding places more likely to see your shrimp. How much your are willing to spend is a factor. I also look at shrimp like your garden. You allow the plants to grow out and fill your garden.

I also think that it's MUCH more fun to start out with a smaller number and watch the shrimp multiply over time. What's the point of filling a tank with hundreds of shrimp right away? My breeding tanks are mostly 20 gallon tanks and I originally started them out with only about 30 shrimp (which is a tiny number for a 20 gallon). Now each of them have at least 1000 in them. It should always be a goal to breed and multiply them. It's also good way to figure out if you're doing things right as these shrimp won't breed (or, if they breed, their larvae won't survive) if the tank and the water parameters are not to their liking.

My initial answer is no. How did you make it brackish? If you used a comericial salt for salt water aquariums the pH and mineral content is set. You only add RO water to address evaporation. If you want you may use old pieces of coral found at your local saltwater fish store. The white uncolored kind. $2-$3 a pound. Cheap. Cuttle fish bone is ugly.

No hints to give you. Just try to not change things. They will breed when they are ready.

Looks good, except that maybe you need a little bit more algae growth. Try adding just a tiny bit more food every time you feed.

Oh...I see. In that case it looks like you're feeding too much. Stop feeding until you only have a thin covering of algae...not clumps and thick carpets of it.
