Moving Problems...

Post by joooorb »

Hello, first time posting here. I have an active opae community in a 15 gallon tank. I started with 100 and I estimate to be about 400 in there now, but there are always babies so I have no clue. I love it, lots of algae growing on all sides of the aquarium so there is constant feeding. This hobby has been a great experience!

The problem is that I am moving soon. This aquarium is in my basement. The bottom of the aquarium is all lava rocks. I'm looking for suggestions on moving this aquarium? I've looked around online and there are not many ideas. I'm not moving far, same town. I'm assuming I will need to catch each shrimp individually, which is a daunting task, but if anyone else has any way this aquarium could be moved it would be much appreciated.

I have no experience in moving large tanks but I make the following suggestion. Lower the water level. Keep the water. Remove some of the lava rocks if they can fall over. Otherwise leave them be.

Okay that's what I was thinking too. Hopefully it works!

Did it work? I moved a bunch of tanks like Ken described (dozens) multiple times and it's really the best way. I lower the water level as much as I can (usually until it's down to 5-10 cm) and just pick up the tank and move it. That works even with 1000+ shrimp in a tank.
