There is no list or anything, but I'll note your interest.shmohney wrote:Put me down as another person interested in purchasing some of this moss if you decide to start selling it. I don't care if it's real Marimo or not. It's pretty!

Re: Brackish moss balls
I know this is an old thread...I am just interested in any developments that might have occurred with regard to these brackish moss balls.

Yes....I have them in multiple tanks...have more pictures of them, and they are ready for sale. However I haven't gotten around to posting the pictures and putting them up on my website...I'll go ahead and do that today or tomorrow.

Exciting news! This seems like an ideal alga for opae'ula tanks with regard to size, growth rate, and appearance.Mustafa wrote:Yes....I have them in multiple tanks...have more pictures of them, and they are ready for sale. Alright...here's finally a video of the Algaeballs (make it full screen and HD if possible):

Re: Brackish moss balls
Nice video. Seems there would be no need for substrate in that tank. Green Carpet is wonderful.

TRIBBLES!!
Looking forward to them being up for sale. I'm always eager to have some plant-life in my 1-gallon, the space is so small I worry about the nitrate buildup in all the accumulated shrimp waste.

Re: Brackish moss balls
Yes, Ken...except that you would have to wait about 2-3 years or so before the balls cover a 10 gallon tank and serve as a substrate.
In any case, the balls algaeballs/mossballs are available in the Petshrimp Store now, but, as I said, not cheap...I simply don't have too many of them and they are very slow growing.

I am looking forward to buying one of these. Are there any care parameters I should be aware of? What are their limits in terms of salinity, light, etc.?
Can I just drop it in any of my four opae ula setups (two receive fairly low light, two are well-illuminated) and let it do its thing?
Can I try one in freshwater, or would it die?

Re: Brackish moss balls
This species is very hardy and seems to adjust to anything thrown at it. I have never seen a ball just melt away and die. I have them at varying salinities, so yes..you can just drop a ball into any of your tanks. I've never tried it in freshwater, but I do have it in a marine tank (had it there for over half a year) and it hasn't died (has grown slightly actually). I'll have to try them in freshwater at some point. Given that I had dropped the ball directly into the marine tank I think it's safe to say that you can drop it in any of your brackish tanks. No acclimation needed.
As for light requirements...if you watch the video you'll see how lots and lots of balls are actually buried under other balls and *still* don't die. Since there is no water movement there is also no turnover, so these balls barely get any light at all. That would make their light requirement very, very low.

Make sure to post some pictures once the algaeball/mossball is in your tank.

Will do! I think it will probably arrive tomorrow.Mustafa wrote:Make sure to post some pictures once the algaeball/mossball is in your tank.
Re: Brackish moss balls
Yeah...looks like it.
In the meantime...here is a comparison picture between one of my mossballs and a marimo ball that Carolina posted in another thread. It appears like the Supershrimp algaeball/mossball is sitting on some hair algae in Carolina's tank:

Re: Brackish moss balls
Unfortunately, USPS is now trying to deliver my moss ball to a city that is 2 or 3 hours away. : (Mustafa wrote:Yeah...looks like it.
I am on hold with them right now, trying to resolve the issue. Good thing those moss balls are tough!
