Added new opae stock but lost one.

So I decided to add more opae ula to my tank as 20 odd looked lost in my 67 litre tank, tested my water parameters and was good, albeit the SG was higher then what they travelled in but I couldn't bring my tank down to much because of the shrimp in my tank already.

Any way... This morning I noticed a dead one on its own in the tank and had to leave for work so I'm worried what I will come home too. I hope it's just an isolated incident because the rest have coloured brilliantly and are doing well. Maybe the traveling shocked it? I know they can just die on you days after they become stressed out.

Now I'm worrying the SG difference did it, tanks about 1.016 and the water they came in was around 1.010, I drip fed my tank water into their pot for 4 hours prior.

Ahhh hell I hate loosing shrimp.


Edit: just to add my tanks about 11 months old and very matured, and I haven't fed the new ones food, water tested fine.

Its my understanding that brackish water animals are adapted to handle rapid changes in salinity so it seems unlikely to me that that alone would have killed one. As you noted, it may have just been the stress of traveling was worse on that individual for some reason.

Thanks, that's made me feel better. 6 hours in and I got my good lady to go check on them and she said no other shrimp have perished so that's a good thing.

I know it's just 'a shrimp' but I hate loosing living things.

I assume it was one of the new shrimp that you lost. Yes. Netting and shipping is stressful. So losing one still hurts but it does happen. I am sure the rest will be fine.

Well when I got in it was still on the bottom of the tank on the sand so I got my net in to remove it and it half swum. Took it out and put it in a spare tank, dunno if it will make it.

No more losses though

guess whos making a come back, hes been in his own tank for 9 days and has moulted, since then hes swimming around and hanging out on the rock. they are not 100% yet but well on their way
