Sea Salt-Marine Salt-Reef Salt
The local pet store sold me Instant Ocean Sea Salt (Since it was the only kind they had for less than 200 gal tanks). The young man told me it was exactly the same as Reef or Marine salt. It is a purple box and says "Instant Ocean Sea Salt" creates the ideal Marine aquarium.
. Is this going to work for the Supershrimp?Re: Sea Salt-Marine Salt-Reef Salt
Certainly, the important thing to remember for the salt is not the brand name but to make sure it isn't:
1. Salt meant for human consumption.
2. Salt meant as a medicinal/health aid for freshwater fish.
So long as the packaging says the salt is meant to simulate an ocean environment it should work just fine, provided of course you use about half the amount it recommends (doing so creating the brackish water the supershrimp thrive in).
Incidentally, Instant Ocean is what I used for my tank.

Thanks so much for the help. I was a little confused by the different terms used.

are the trace elements in reef salt "bad" for the shrimp? they live in it naturally, no?
