Incubating eggs

Post by blenny »

Does Incubating eggs takes nutrition from their mother or nutrition within the eggs?

The egg is self-dependant. It has no connection to the mother.

Does that mean the eggs can be artificially hatched?

Theoretically, yes. However, it's going to be a little hard forcing the eggs out of a living mother shrimp (plus too stressful for her). The best thing is to leave the eggs with the mother who gives the eggs the perfect care they need. I have never heard of anyone successfully hatching shrimp eggs when they tried hatching them after the mother shrimp died. However, again, that does not mean that it's impossible.

Chances are that the eggs probably were in the process of being overgrown with fungus already right after the females died. It is really hard to save those eggs. The goal should be to keep the female shrimp with the eggs alive. Maybe next time...
