Lava Rock

Post by Malikta »

I purchased a sculptured lava rock hideaway, the description says it's authentic- I don't see why it would be manufactured as it would be more expensive to do that. But I soaked and rinsed it with distilled water and it has a lot of dust and discoloration leaching off. Is this safe to put in my tank, has this been anyone else's experience?

I just want a safe hideaway - nothing decorative or manufactured. From the reviews I read, it was safe in tanks but fish had issues with their fins getting torn.

Please help!

Natural lava rock shouldn’t leach color or anything. Could just be dirt, in which case you would want to clean it multiple times and soak it til the water is clear.

You were right. I guess it was super dirty or had crumbs/sand from getting bounced around it shipping. The water looked dirty because all the grit settled at the bottom.

I popped it in my tank, fingers crossed. My little guys are very stressed. I'm going to give them some peace & quiet for a couple of days.
