Random white string in my tank?

Post by Seiryshrimpie »

Hello! I hope someone can help me out here since I'm a newbie. I recently took my shrimps out of ecosphere hell (one week ago) so I know i might not be doing the best job with the water changes, feeding etc. but I can tell my shrimps are happy now. They swim together all the time and do their daily hunting around the tank something they never use to do in the ecosphere. Now my concern is the random white string hanging from their branch. I woke up this morning only to find one of the shrimps eating/playing with the string (looks like a small web). The string was definitely not there last night or atleast not visible but this morning it was clear. Out of nowhere, the shrimp lets go of the string and falls on their back and starts having seizure like movements (jumping in the water). The shrimp was swimming but jumping everywhere. I immediately freaked out and washed my hands with their water since i have backup, and put my hands in their tank and pulled the string out of the branch. There is no algae in their water, I just ordered some from this site and it'll arrive tomorrow. I am completely confused by this, what went wrong? If anybody has any info on this I would truly appreciate it :( I'm so worried, I don't want to lose them. The shrimp that was eating the string looks perfect now and is swimming with his buddy but I don't want to get my hopes up and want to fix the problem

UPDATE: I woke up this morning and found molting and assume it was just that (hanging from the branch) 😀

Looks like molting! From my research, I've seen that shrimp act "crazy" sometimes...the "seizure" was probably just play. Someone with more experience can probably weigh in, too :D
