The snails eat the same stuff as the shrimp and do fine on the shrimp's leftovers.

ok so they eat the algae also? because it seems like alot of people only feed there tanks about once a month
Re: Hello Im New and would love your advice :)
Yup, algae, bacteria, shrimp poop, etc. And depending on how much algae grows in your tank you may only end up feeding every few months, but once a month is a safe start provided all the food you add is eaten within a few hours.

I'm going to try a Fluval Edge for my next tank, if that helps.

It's cheaper at Petco, but Amazon has better pics. The column behind the tank is where the filter is supposed to live, but I just won't install it. I like that this tank is designed to be filled up completely so the water touches the top cover, giving a unique top-down view.

Love that setup! Is there holes where the shrimp can get into?

Question. If your water stays getting low do you just fill with more distilled or do you mix the marine salt with it because I read someone saying the water evaporates but the salt doesn't.

That tank has no holes. And when water evaporates you just top off with straight distilled water--the salt stays in the tank.

I’m a little paranoid because I used a 5 gallon soy sauce container but I washed it really good with soap. You don’t think that could contaminate anything could it? I used the bucket to wash everything and make my brackish water
Re: Hello Im New and would love your advice :)
What kind of soap was it? You really want to avoid the use of any chemical cleaners when it comes to aquatic invertebrates, and a number of soaps can qualify for that. Your tank may still be ok, provided you rinsed and scrubbed it thoroughly with water after using the soap.
