Re: New shrimp papa questions
The snail magic I meant was their ability to clean and aerate the substrate, which helps break down waste. I think you'd have to have a pretty deep layer before you run into toxic gas problems, so that's probably not an issue. Although every inch of substrate means an inch less water for the shrimp, so gotta make a calculated decision

Re: New shrimp papa questions
It’s been about 3 days and the water is still slightly cloudy. Is this normal? I did some searching on the forum and I think it should’ve cleared up by now?
Also - I realized that the water very, very gently ripples when the washing machine/dryer is running. This would only occur once a week at most. Will this be problematic?

Re: New shrimp papa questions
Not sure about the ripples, but my first tank took about a week to get crystal clear with no filtration of any kind. Even though I had rinsed my substrate multiple times until the water ran clear, some very fine particles remained and hung around for a while before settling down. It sounds like you've found your first opportunity to practice the "wait and see" method

Re: New shrimp papa questions
A new tank can take up to 2 weeks to completely become clear. That's normal and not harmful at all. As for the washing mashine...is the tank *on* the washing machine? Once a week should be ok either way, though.
Re: New shrimp papa questions
Of course not, haha. It’s in the hallway nearby on a long table. But the spin cycle vibration is a little strong. So I was just making sure it wasn’t going to be harmful as I was reading that movement stresses the shrimps out
And it’s SO HARD to not touch anything and just wait and see, but I am doing my best to stick to that. Thanks guys!
