5th Opae Ula Aquarium—finally cycled!
I am excited that my newest Opae ula aquarium is finally cycled! Just thought I’d share. So far, nothing but a mini moss ball and Mustafa’s Macroalgae in there. I’d have been wanting to add some of my snails, but they’ve been staying in the sand of my other setups lately.

What a great setup! Is that algae on the glass? Is this approx 10 gallon?
Re: 5th Opae Ula Aquarium—finally cycled!
Thank you! That is indeed algae on the glass...Fortunately it cycled pretty quickly! I set up the tank on 3/11/19, and the algae appeared overnight between the 3/28/19 and 3/29/19. I’m sure it helps that I took the moss ball and macroalgae out of one of my thoroughly established tanks, where I had been holding them since I bought them a month or two ago.
This is a 5.5 gallon aquarium. My largest is a 10, and I have another 5.5, a 3, and a 2 gallon. They all have macroalgae too, and one has a number of tiny mini moss balls, descendants of the original I bought a few years ago.

It certainly looks much bigger than 5 gallon!
Yeah that is pretty fast, did it get a lot of light?
Hopefully you got some shrimp assigned for transfer from your other tanks haha.

I like the look of the tank.
Re: 5th Opae Ula Aquarium—finally cycled!
I found some 4-6” lava rocks that worked out pretty well, they give the illusion of a larger tank. I was fortunate enough to get the entire aquarium kit on sale, and used the filter on another non-shrimp aquarium.
The lighting is moderate, I’d say...3 LEDs in the lid...it is one of the kits from Petsmart. There is some additional light that spills over from my adjacent desert beetle vivarium, that probably contributes.
Currently seated next to me on the bus are about two dozen Supershrimp and a snail I netted from my other tanks this weekend...we’re on our way to work (this tank in my office).
Needlesa to say, I am excited to add the shrimp!

I would love to show the beetle vivarium, but I don’t think I am allowed to on this forum, am I?

Show it in this thread.
