Safely introducing shrimp?

Post by matmcd »

Hey all! Followed the guide to a T and already have algae growth 12 days in! I just ordered my first 10 shrimp and was wondering is it better to move them into a separate container with some of my tanks water in it for like an hour and then introduce them to my tank? Or would it be safe to just introduce them into the tank directly from what they're shipped in? Thanks!

It's fine to go direct. I just let mine sit in the room with the tank for a bit so the temperature can acclimate.

It's safe to just dump them in with the water they shipped in. I second SuperProofer's temp acclimation advice. The shipping bag is little, so it won't take long. Congrats!

I overdid it then :D . I gradually added water from the tank to the bag ( dumping some out of the bag every time)over a 45 minute period. I must have done it 5 or 6 times, maybe more. Oh yeah, I also poured the water and shrimp through my net and then released them into the tank from the net. None of the bag water went in the tank.

Thanks, everyone! Appreciate the advice. I'll definitely let them adjust to room temp before adding.
