Suggestions for light?

I am getting prepared to set up a 2.5 gallon glass (12” X 6” X 8”) aquarium for Opae Ula. I’ve been looking for a light to use and was have been looking on Amazon. What light package has worked well for you? Nicrew seems to have a number of options and are reasonably priced. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

I think you are limited to a small clip on light because of the small size of your tank.
The 7" 7 watt clip on light from Nicrew would be plenty. Use a timer for a 12/12 cycle and you are good to go. They do not need huge amounts of light, so a small LED clip on like the Nicrew is perfect.

If you have a north facing window to set the tank you would not need any light. North light is the most consistent and is not direct so you do not need to worry about excessive algae growth or the tank overheating from the sun.

The light that Vorteil suggested will definitely work, and 800 lumens is plenty enough for algae growth.

That looks like a lot of light for a 3.5. Mine only has 3 LED's and my plants are doing well.

Let's try not to confuse Bryan. Even a simple desk lamp on a timer will work just fine. Two of my tanks are illuminated by desk lamps that have a 40w equivalent 2700k LED bulb and all is well.

Where's the confusion? Seems simple enough to me. Take into consideration the cost of the LED I suggested. It's low. To top it off it's cheaper to operate than your 40w lamp.

Thanks, Everyone. Think I’ll be going with a Nicrew Classic Plus. Looks like it produces enough light and appears to be pretty well made. I’ll put it on a timer.

It is simple, but it sounds as if Bryan may be a beginner, so the KISS method works best in my view. Please note that I said a 40W equivalent LED bulb which uses maybe 7W of juice, not a 40W incandescent. That is all.
