Any Breeding Tips for RCS?

Post by jonathan03 »

I just ordered some red cherry shrimp and I'm wondering if anyone can offer any breeding tips? I have a 10 gallon tank that will be just for the shrimp. It has some ricca and DIY Co2. I have the temperature at 77 degrees. Keeping the temperature in this range was about the only tip I found.

One thing that I am a little conerned about is my hard water. The tap ph is 8.7. Is this likely to effect the shrimp and them breeding?

I ordered 20 shrimp. Is a 10 gallon enough for them? Would a larger tank encourage them to multiply faster?

I have read that page and the shrimp keeping guide, but I'm asking if there is anything that can be done to induce breeding. For example, some fish are more lilkely to breed when there is a temperature change or a change in ph. Basically, I'm looking for anything besides what is in the article.

The only advice the artcile gives for breeding is:

1) keep the water between 70-80
2) females are deep red when carrying eggs

Are there any other things to do? Or is it just that simple?

Forgive me with the basic questions, but I haven't even seen these shrimp in real life yet - only picutres online.

It's pretty much that simple. Make sure you have male and female, add water and food .... and wait. :)
