So I have a 1 gal tank and I ordered all of my supplies from here. I got 10 shrimp and 8 MTS. My shrimp died off (I messed up, there was some ammonia and and the pH was too low) and I was going to let the tank cycle before buying more shrimp (I also added some sea urchin skeletons to increase the pH, but I will test again before purchasing).
ANYWAY, the I suspect the water quality improved because I now have at least 45 MTS. So I was just wondering:
How many MTS are too many for a 1 gallon tank? Or will the population plateau as food becomes more scarce?
Can I safely add more shrimp once the water parameters are idea? Is it a problem to have say, 10 or so shrimp with like 50 MTS in a 1 gallon tank?

The snails will self regulate depending upon food availability. I am wondering why your pH was initially too low. Did you not have a calcium source for buffering? I am not familiar with urchin skeletons. Are they just calcium carbonate?

My pH was definitely too low initially. I had calcium pebbles but apparently not enough. I think between that and the ammonia, it definitely killed my shrimp. The urchin skeletons are calcium carbonate and shortly after adding them is when my MTS started breeding more prolifically, so I assume that helped raised the pH, but I will definitely do a full API test kit shortly.
I am just primarily concerned about the large number of MTS being in any sort of conflict with the relatively small number of shrimp I plan on purchasing.

The shrimp will be fine even with alot of snails. At some point you could add a very tiny amount of spirulina powder once the shrimp have been in the tank for awhile. They do fine on very small amounts of food.
