Hi there,
I am setting up a 2-gallon tank. I got crushed coral and some rock from my LFS. The owner knew about Opae Ula and had kept them in the past. He suggested I should NOT rinse the crushed coral, and could just lightly rinse the rock in tap water. So far, I've followed his advise.
However it seems like the usual here is to rinse everything in distilled water. How important is this? I'd think I'm probably fine to proceed, but I could just rinse everything in dechlorinated tap water to be safe? I'm curious if people have experience not rinsing or merely rinsing items in untreated tap water before adding to the tank.

A quick rinse in tap water is fine.
