Safe to transport?

Post by AzaelaSpirit »

Hey there!

So I'm a brand new Shrimp owner, and am part of the ecosphere-not-so-good club. I'm gonna be setting up my new tank this afternoon and getting it ready for my shrimp when I order them. I would like them to be a part of my work since I work at a Cardiology office. I think it would be really cool for my patient's to see them, but I don't want to cause unnecessary stress on them. How should I get it all set up? Should I set up my tank and put the shrimp in at home, then transport them to my work? Or should I set up the tank at home, bring it to work, and then when I get my Shrimp, bring them to work and get them inside?

Hi Azalea,
I started about six months ago with a one gallon jar. My shrimp are thriving and fascinating to watch. The best advice is to follow the set up tank advice on the Petshrimp.com front page. Set up your tank, buy macro algae, snails, and moss ball(if you can afford it) then wait for algae growth. Don't be in too much hurry to add shrimp to your tank. When it's ready, you can dump the shrimp in and they'll be fine. In a medical office, I would be mindful of keeping the lid sealed most of the time to avoid airborne disinfectants that may be harmful.
While you're waiting, I recommend reading the entire discussion forum. Most of your questions will be answered somewhere. Wishing you all the best with your tank.

hello (: do you still have your ecosphere and are planning to break it to get the shrimp into your tank? I do not recommend moving a tank..it’s gonna be difficult... I would probably just set the tank up at your workplace and *make sure* you’re gonna be able to get the shrimp to your workplace on the day they arrive to your home. I also agree with the previous commenter. Be patient and there is soooo much info on this forum, it will answer all your questions and more.
