Hello! A few newbie questions

Post by floydmeddler »

Hi guys. Complete newbie here based in Brighton, England. Very excited to begin my shrimp journey. My kids are going to love it. Plan has been to have an aquarium for a while now and was going to go down the usual fish route. Then I heard about shrimp. Fish are suddenly VERY boring...

I would massively appreciate your help with getting started with stage 1: The set up!

1. Is this tank 13G tank suitable? https://www.pro-shrimp.co.uk/aquariums/ ... v3EALw_wcB

2. What type of substrate and gravel would you recommend?

3. What plants should I start buying in and how many? Ideally, I'd like low maintenance, so perhaps slow growing varieties if they exist? The length of the tank is 16 inches in length.

4. Water. I have an R.O system that I use for beer brewing water. I'm guessing this will be a sensible move from what I've already read. What additions will I need to add to the water to get the correct balance?

5. The tank will be in a corner of a room that gets sunlight. However, there will be no direct sunlight hitting the tank. Will I need a special type of lighting? The tank comes with a 'Leddy Tube 6w Lamp'. Is this suitable?

6. Is there anything else I need to consider?

Thank you in advance!

Go here: www.opaeula.co.uk. It is a UK site that will fill you in. Opae Ula, which is the type of shrimp we keep, are brackish water shrimp and very different from freshwater shrimp.

Good luck
