Just to share on what happens if you clean up opae's poop

Post by MrsT_2 »

Hello hello my friends. I lost my old account so I created new. It's been a long long time I went Mia.
After like almost 6 years I decided to suck up my opae"s poop. I never clean opae tank before.
Kind of messy.

This container was the 3rd and the last poop. Then something got me thinking. I forgot to check if there were babies inside.
Boy I was right, the babies loves hiding in their poop. I felt so bad that I threw away the 1st and 2nd batch

Actually those load of poops for my 6 year old tank really looks like fine sand, only that, if I use real sand the chances that babies might get buried under but for poop they are very light, babies are free to roam within.

Here's my tank now.

These creatures are very socialise. Really enjoyed watching them on my break time.
I can almost hear them chatting
"are we there yet?"
"are we there yet?"
"are we there yet?"
:smt005 :smt005 :smt005

They only do laps when:
1)i I top up RO water
2) I clean the tank glass
3) I added decorative ornaments these recently.
4) I gave a tiny pinch of spirullina powder.

When molting happens they wiill not run laps, they will be more like panicking mode.

Okay hope you guys enjoy.
Bye

Best to never clean the poop up. It's there to provide nutrients to the algae and also create biofilm.

Thank you :D they used to be so dirty because I abandoned this tank for years, it's self sustaining near my window sill on day time with a small camp light on timer for the night.
Only recently I decided to clean it and wipe the front glass for viewing.

The container looks right now here.

Lovely tank!
You mentioned it had been 6 years since you had cleaned up poop. How long have you had the tank?

Hello Aquarimax,
Thank you. the tank is about 6 yrs old. I never clean them until recently this year. February 2025 I sucked the poop out but not entirely. So that last container of poop I kept until April before thrown out because I'm trying to observe whether there still baby inside.

All these years I had abandoned them. They were left in 1 hidden corner where they gets only 1 hour morning sun, I hardly notice they were there.

I found 2 as you can see in one of the link. I'm pretty sure there's 1 more but there was no movement for a very long time so i threw out those poop last month
