Since more than one person said they die back and can regrow, I searched the container I had them in and there are Several small orange dots around the container. I tried to get pics but they're FAR to tiny for my iPhone to focus on them. I tried but just have some blurry pics with brownish looking smudges. All of them are in the area the pieces I had were in though.
Have any of you ever noticed any small orange dots on things near your Batophora?
TIA

Re: Discovered A New Brackish Water Plant!
Been doing a bit of research and reading.... Found a link with an image from the Bahamas of Batophora oerstedi. Since that's the species of Batophora found close to the keys and since I Also found some "Acetabularia crenulata" in the same area, I'm going to guess that's what mine was. And you can see some reddish orange colored pieces as well... just like mentioned by someone else about theirs.
Scroll through these pics... pretty cool looking! AND they're growing in a brackish 'pond'. That tells me Acetabularia may survive in our tanks as well. Anyone on here living in the Bahamas? May be worth a try!

Oh Wait!!! It also grows along the "overseas Highway" in the Keys in "Great abundance".
In Wikipedia it states "Acetabularia crenulata, one of the many species known as mermaid's wineglass, is a form of green alga generally found in shallow tropical seas. It can be found growing in great abundance along stretches of the overseas highway to Key West, Florida bordering on Florida Bay."
That tells me Batophora probably does too! Is ANYONE from the Keys? Or going to the Keys any time soon?
If I had known before I took my trip a few months back, I'd have searched more! Really bummed now :-/
Here they call it Green Horsetail

Update? If anyone else has got this to grow, what salinity are you keeping it at?

TANK UPDATE
********************************************
Here's what this tank looks like now...
I am about to do some serious aquascaping on this tank, and as part of that process, I will be plucking a ton (not all) of this stuff out of it. I am willing to mail a few sprigs (including ones with the seed pods) to anyone who wants it FOR FREE. It's a Christmas miracle! Gonna be pulling so much out, and I feel bad just tossing it all when there are so many folks interested in it.
You can message me your request via this forum, or even better, email me directly: jason.g.3333@gmail.com
Be sure to include your name and mailing address. I may even reach out and message some/all of the folks who have been participating in this thread to ask if they still have an Opae Ula tank (some the posts are years old at this point), and if so, are they still interested in acquiring this algae for it. Hit me up, people...!

Greetings, JasonG3333:
How did your Batophora ocidentalis distribution network go? (Is that the species everyone decided on?) Did the plant grow in anybody else's tank besides yours? Fingers, toes, and eyes all tightly crossed for success.

Yes, there has been success. See comments above in this topic, especially Paulzie67’s and Mustafa’s. More here from Corucia:

Not sure what you mean by “is that the species everyone decided on?” This topic was simply a discussion about this particular species.
Email me your mailing address soon if you want some…!

Re: Discovered A New Brackish Water Plant!
Posters were wondering whether it was Batophora oerstedii or Batophora ocidentalis. That's what I meant. That alga looks nice when it's growing. Has there been any research on it to help fill in some of your knowledge gaps in their life cycle?
Thank you for the offer to send me some, but at this point, it would be a death sentence since I am still feeling myself along with this brackish thing. I have some Malaysian Trumpet Snails, but no Opae'ula yet. It's frigid here; they would not survive the trip.
I have a 2 gallon jarquarium that has some alga growing and a 2 liter jarquarium with only brown stuff sticking on the glass (diatoms?). There are snails in both. I knew they were small critters, but I didn't picture the miniscule size discrepancy! They are very small for the real estate they have. I will have to get more next week. (I finally found a pet shop in Manhattan, NYC, that has MTS. I bought 7 and kept them under my coat for the 2 hours it took to get home.)

Re: Discovered A New Brackish Water Plant!
Got it, and that also explains MY confusion regarding your question. It actually WAS identified definitively by Stalker back in February 2016 on page 2 of this topic: Batophora Oerstedii
