Hi everyone,
I've had Supershrimp for 6 years now in a globe shaped aquarium, the biOrb one that I think is the 8 gallon one. They survived a trip to college than came back home after a quarter. All I did for that trip was pull out one decoration. I don't think any died during that whole ordeal. About two years ago they actually (finally) started breeding and I have new babies several times each year.
My 55 gallon aquarium's last surviving fish died. So naturally I decided to turn it into a Supershrimp tank.
It's got drained, cleaned, filled, about a month ago. Bio-film has started, some algae is growing. I put just a few decorations in, no substrate yet, and managed to catch one shrimp. Harder that I thought. I added it today to see what happens. I left a lot of the stuff out of tank so I can track this one little shrimp.
Wish me luck!
I'm not sure exactly how many shrimp I have in the 8 gallon tank (I'd guess 30+, hard to count they hide all the time), but if this little guy survives the transfer I'll be adding more, I think I'll give it a month. The Supershrimp price has skyrocketed in recent years. I'd love an all orange tank but dang they are expensive.

Re: Setting up additional 50 Gallon Tank
Going to remove the smaller similar decoration next time I find the shrimp which has survived the last few hours after transfer. Need tank background ideas! I had no idea that aquarium gravel was painted, at least that's what the bag said when I looked at the options the other day. I think I'm going to the nursery/landscape supply place and going to look for cool looking rock, and do a rock bottom, I'm thinking fist size rocks or slightly smaller, with one or two larger ones. I see what they have!

Another day, another single live shrimp. Might move some more sooner rather than later.

Total of 5 transfered shrimp, all surviving. Guess it's all good but with 55 gallons a lot of water volume to mask any issues.

Total of 14, none have perished in the transfer. I have created another tank for my work office, I've lost 1 in the transfer of 6, so 5 are in it. So total of 20 transfers, 19 have survived. Her is the new office tank, it's about 1.5 gallons

So here is the 55 gallon one, yes that is an old concrete pelican weather worn, a geode, the blue glass sphere will go back in original tank, the blue bottle will remain in some capacity. One Pine Knot is still absorbing water, the other sank in a few hours, bother were in prior freshwater tank.

Well shrimp are doing great. Got 10 in my office tank now, all now red after going white for a day or so. Loving my coral piece. And loving the algae wafer I just put in. They must have been starving poor little fellas. Gonna have to pull that out when they stop swarming it, way to big of piece.

Re: Setting up additional 50 Gallon Tank
Interesting observation today. A week or so ago, maybe 2 weeks, when I added the new sand to the tank it stayed cloudy for days. To clear it up I re-installed by canister filter, it cleared it in a day. I then removed it. A few days later i thought why not just re-install it and leave it running, what would it hurt. Well I did that and then for the past week the little guys have been hiding all the time. Just now I removed some water for another new tank, and that exposed the return flow so it started making a bunch of noise so i turned of filter. 30 mins later all the shrimp were out and about. Guess filter not needed could also be filter not desired by the little guys.
