Can anyone confirm this shrimp identity? After checking the varities, I think they are cherry reds. They're very small, less than 1/2 inch, and all 12 I bought have the same coloration. Their colours are getting stronger as they settle into the tank. Between the picture and description I'm fairly sure they are cherry reds.
The yellow object is inside the shrimp, not part of its shell. Since it's the shrimps stomache I assume it's just food. I've been feeding them flake and catfish pellets.
Pconnieae, can you explain a bit more about the yellow bit? It seems to cover the stomach and where the testes are in a male. I looked online and couldn't find out what the area is called in the female. Ovary?
Yes, it is ovaries. Thanks to that yellow spot, you can easily make the difference between males and females. Moreover red cherry males are not as colored as females, they are sometimes colorless with single red stripes. Have a look here .
